Huge Priest Abuse Settlement

Wow...there is such a thing as sexual abuse insurance. Beyond that, I don't quite know what to say here.

I had the exact same reaction, as I'm sure most people did. However, the problem is not that sex abuse insurance exists, but rather that the church decided to buy it. Rather than deal with the problem of sexual predators (let's admit it, that's exactly what these priests are) in such ways as background investigations, lifestyle investigations, or actually creating a no sex abuse policy and then truly policing themselves, the church decided to allow it and buy insurance to buffer against financial ruin. Thus, it proves that the church is not interested in preventing the crime, but rather recovering from the aftermath. And just as despicable as the crime itself, is the fact that many of these priests are still serving as heads of parishes, as well as the bishops and cardinals who turned a blind eye to the problems. They should all be defrocked, ex-communicated from the church, and also put in jail. If 500 people who worked for Microsoft claimed sex abuse and proved it, every person guilty would be fired and eventually sent to jail, and every manager who was in charge and turned a blind eye would also be fired. Why does the church get special treatment? It's time to clean house of these sexual predators, unless the catholic church feels that it is doing the right thing in God's eye by purchasing sex abuse insurance and letting these crimes happen. Don't even get me started on the biblical hypocrasy of the catholic church.

It also begs the question... who would sell the church sex abuse insurance? It'd be like insuring Kirstie Alley's career. No one takes a bet they know for sure is a loss.
